Fuse Board Replacement - Quality Electricians

What is a fuse board?

When it comes to the electrical system in your home, safety should always be a priority. One crucial component of this system is the fuse board. The fuse board, also known as the consumer unit, is responsible for dividing the electrical supply and powering various appliances in your home. Over time, however, fuse boards can become outdated or faulty, compromising the safety and efficiency of your home’s electrical system. This is why fuse board replacement is an important service to consider.

A Fuse Board is usually made up of three components. The main switch, a Residual Current Device (RCD) and either Mini Circuit Breakers (MCBs) or Fuses, depending on the age of the unit.

  • The main switch can turn off the electricity supply if needed. This is helpful as it allows the electricity to be shut off when fuses need resetting. It can also prevent incidents such as electric shocks when changing bulbs.
  • An RCD is a safety measure that trips the circuit, shutting off electricity in the case of an overload, lightning strike, fault etc. An RCD constantly measures the electric current flowing through circuits. If the RCD detects any sudden change current, it instantly shuts off the electricity. This measure can be life saving and guards against electrocutions.
  • Depending on the model of fuse board, you should either have Mini Circuit Breakers or Fuses. MCBs are a lot more common in today’s fuse boards whereas fuses were likely to be found in older models. Before Circuit Breaker’s were introduced, fuses could fry and disconnect the circuit if an overload occurred. Once fried, fuses have to be replaced. Circuit Breakers are designed to turn themselves off whenever a fault occurs. This lowers the chance of them melting, meaning that circuit breakers are able to be reused .

Do you Need a fuse Board Replacement?

If your current electrical installation is safe for use and meets current regulations, then no upgrade is needed. It can, however, be very difficult to work this out without any testing. The best way of finding out if a replacement is needed is to have an electrical inspection carried out.

At Taylor Made Solutions, we specialise in fuse board replacement to ensure that your home’s electrical system is up to modern standards, providing you with the highest level of safety and peace of mind. Our team of experienced electricians is trained to handle all aspects of fuse board replacement, from assessing the existing equipment to the final installation and testing.

Let’s explore why fuse board replacement is important and how it can benefit your home

Electrical Safety and Protection

One of the primary reasons to consider fuse board replacement is to enhance electrical safety in your home. Outdated or faulty fuse boards can pose significant risks, such as electrical fires and electric shocks. By replacing your fuse board with a modern one, you can benefit from enhanced safety features like residual current devices (RCDs) that provide protection against electric shocks and electrical fires. Our electricians ensure that the replacement fuse board meets the latest safety regulations, giving you peace of mind and protecting your loved ones.

Upgrading to Modern Standards

Technology and electrical requirements have evolved significantly over the years. Older fuse boards may not have enough ways or capacity to handle the electrical demands of modern homes. If you find that your current fuse board is constantly overloaded or lacks the necessary capacity, upgrading to a modern fuse board is a wise choice. An upgraded fuse board can provide additional ways for your electrical requirements, ensuring that your home’s electrical system operates efficiently and safely.

Reliability & Efficiency

Fuse board replacement improves the overall reliability and efficiency of your electrical system. Outdated fuse boards are more prone to electrical faults and failures, leading to power outages and disruptions. By replacing your fuse board, you can enjoy a more reliable electrical system with fewer interruptions. Additionally, modern fuse boards are designed to distribute power efficiently, ensuring optimal performance of your electrical appliances and devices.

Professional Installation & Compliance

When it comes to fuse board replacement, it is crucial to rely on the expertise of professional electricians. Our team at IPF Electrical consists of skilled electricians who are trained to handle fuse board replacements safely and efficiently. We ensure that all installations comply with the necessary safety regulations and standards. Our electricians thoroughly assess the existing electrical setup, making any required upgrades or replacements to ensure a seamless and compliant installation process.

Cost-Effectiveness

Fuse board replacement is a cost-effective solution compared to constantly repairing or upgrading outdated fuse boards. While the initial investment may seem significant, it offers long-term benefits and avoids the recurring expenses of frequent repairs. Additionally, modern fuse boards are built to last, reducing the need for immediate replacements and minimizing maintenance costs.

Why Should I have My Fuse Board Replaced?

  • By upgrading your fuse boards you can reduce the risk of a home fire by up to 70%.
  • A faulty power point can also increase the risk of a fire by up to 75%.
  • 50% of all fuse boards in the UK are outdated and need to be replaced.
  • 40% of households have not had their fuse boards inspected in the past 5 years.
